Sony’s notebook range gets fresh batch of E and S series models with “new look” design

Sony today unveiled an army of new VAIO Windows laptops. And by army we mean four new models: two for the E series and two in the S series.

The new VAIO S series are compact 13.3 and 15.5-inch models with some resemblance to the plastic MacBook range. Designed with mobility in mind, they’re constructed from weight-saving materials like magnesium, aluminium and carbon fibre – the upshot being the 15.5-inch model weighs less than 2kg.

There’s room for an optical drive however (Blu-ray and DVD options are available), and storage can be enhanced using a 500GB docking station that automatically backs up the contents of the S’s hard drive.

The new E series models are 15.5 and 17.3 inches in size, and geared more towards performance than mobility. The E17 features a full HD screen for gaming or ogling Blu-ray films in all their 1080p glory. Both models feature an ultra low power sleep mode that’ll last up to 10 days.

The new VAIOs will be available in early June, with prices to be confirmed.
