Adobe’s Creative Suite 6 announcement may not quite rival The Dark Knight Rises for most anticipated sequel of the summer, but the update still offers a lot to get excited about.
With updates to all software packages, including InDesign and Illustrator, it’s Photoshop CS6 that gets the biggest rework, with image manipulation and video editing promised to be easier than ever, plus new 3D design capabilities.
But what we’re most intrigued by is Adobe’s introduction of the Creative Cloud, allowing users to purchase CS6 products via an online subscription. Cloud members can download all CS6 programs and get updates and new software as it’s released.
Subscribers can also store files in the cloud, making it quick and simple to sync work from one platform to another. Cloudees (as we’ve decided to call them) should also find it easy to upload mobile apps to the App Store and Google Play as well as being able to publish, manage and host websites.
And how much will this subscription cost? Creative Cloud membership comes in at $62.99 per month for annual membership or $94.99 per month on a rolling subscription. That could make the full CS6 package far more accessible to casual users, even if it's not quite the bargain you'll find in Adobe's Touch apps for tablets. (It's also worth noting that Australians are charged substantially more than Americans for the same service.)
