Oakley's CEO Colin Baden has told Bloomberg that the company is working on glasses with in-built smartphone capabilities that project information directly onto the lenses.
The mystery glasses sound like a clear challenge to Google's recently unveiled Project Glass AR glasses – although Oakley will only be aiming its augmented reality specs at athletes for the time being.
This won't be the first time that Oakley has delved into the world of smart spectacles – remember the Oakley Thumps? – so we're looking forward to seeing what the ocular boffins in Oakley's secret labs are working on. One thing's for sure -- the end result is bound to be pretty stylish.
With Valve also developing wearable computing eyewear for gaming, we may soon have a pair of AR glasses for every occassion. The future is looking bright -- so it's a good thing they come in shades.
What are your thoughts on the current crop of AR eyewear? Do you think they will catch on with the general public or is it a fashion faux pas too far?
