Google Drive to take on Dropbox with 5GB free storage

Google Drive to take on Dropbox with 5GB free storage

If the latest online reports are true, Google Drive will debut on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS as a free app with 5GB free storage.

Google's online cloud storage solution, Google Drive, is expected to launch in the next few months. However, if the latest online rumours are true, it could be landing as soon as next week - with 5GB of free storage.

According to a mystery Google "partner" who spoke to The Next Web, Google Drive will launch on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS Google Drive "in the middle of next week."

The free app will allegedly come with 5GB of free storage, the same amount offered by iCloud and 3GB more than you get when you first sign up to Dropbox.

The source also told The Next Web that the app will appear as desktop folders on Windows PCs and Macs, possibly with auto-synced contents.

If the 5GB rumours turn out to be true, tjhis could be a handy alternative to DropBox. We'll report back as soon as we get clear confirmation.
