Ever wish your laptop was, well, more like a tablet with plenty of ports and a full-sized keyboard? Qualcomm is here to grant your wishes from the sound of things as it has big plans for skinny Windows 8 laptops powered by its incoming quad-core Snapdragon S4 chips.
Tablet hybrids like the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity already run on Qualcomm's ARM-based dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor – but this new onslaught of 'always-on' laptops should come sporting hi-res screens like we're used to seeing on high-end tabs. So far, so Intel twelve months ago.
But Qualcomm reckons its quad-core S4 chips will arrive in Windows 8 machines that are considerably lighter and thinner than the MacBook Air and the slightest of Ultrabooks.
Qualcomm's Senior VP Rob Chandhok talked to PC World magazine about the plans and added that we can also look forward to 4G connectivity and longer battery life in the new hardware. So if the MacBook Air, rumoured 2012 MacBook Pro or current glut of Ultrabooks haven't tempted you so far, it might be worth holding off until the end of 2012.
