Sony files patent for a Kinect-like device

Sony is working on its own Kinect-like 3D tracking camera device, according to a late 2011 patent that was published this month.

The patent was filed by Richard Marks (the creator of the EyeToy and PlayStation Move) and suggests that the PlayStation 4 (or maybe even the PS3) could have tracking abilities to contend with the likes of the Xbox Kinect.

As always it's best to remember that patents are often created 'just in case' and don't always come to fruition — but a Sony motion tracking 3D camera certainly doesn't sound too far-fetched to us. PlayStation Eye anyone?
