Confirmed: Samsung Galaxy S III to land in winter 2012

Samsung confirms that the Galaxy S III won't be launching at Mobile World Congress.

Samsung Galaxy S III

Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy S III will be unveiled by the winter and not at this month’s Mobile World Congress.

The internet has been buzzing with rumours about when Sammy's iPhone 4S-killing successor to the Galaxy S II will debut – but Samsung put us out of our upgrade misery when it confirmed that we won’t be able to get our mitts on a Galaxy S III until a little later in the year.

Samsung wants to delay launching its new flagship model until after the spring when the phone will be closer to going on sale.

The company is staying schtum about the phone’s specs but we’re confidently predicting the presence of a top-flight Exynos quad-core processor, 3D compatible Super AMOLED Plus 720p display powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and TouchWiz.

The Galaxy 2 is more than capable for now.

A great phone, easy to use and far more bounce than to shatter (as some do) when dropped.

Too many of my friends use them as great snappers and superior picture viewers. (sigh)

If Samsung needs to copy other people's designs they could do worse than copy Nokia's:

I don't own a smartphone however the new Nokia's look fairly impressive. Perhaps it's time to get rid of my old Nokia?

Apple copied the look and feel and most of the external design of the PRECEDING LG Prada. Samsung's F700 appeared at the same time as iphone but had a KB instead of a touch screen - even though they manufactured these.

One of them was on the market well before Apple announced their super successful clone with better software innards. It won DESIGN awards in 2006.

This time line is easily proven and has been done countless times.

The Nokia looks very classy, I'm a fan of the vanishingly thin bezel. So far that's the Galaxy 3. Not 'best' necessarily, just the minimalist look I like and it will be hard to beat if you discount gimmicks.

Ruby, there are only so many permutations of the glass, rectangular minimalist look.

For the record, minimalist design started in the west in the 1920's (as you well know) and includes influences from:

The De Stijl art movement
Architects like Van Der Rohe
Traditional Japanese design

ALL well before Jobs was even a twinkle in his dad's eyes. Again he copied/stole and the fans turn this intoanother (groan) retro-invention.

Of course once Jobs COPIED something, is unacceptable for others to follow minimalist philosophy? Look at Hi Fi gear - from a plethora of buttons to software-driven minimalist in a decade.

MANY OTHER appliances also use minimalist design as do some phones.

That unadulterated fan-BS (tm) "retro-copied-from-apple" chant is wearing thin - easily debunked with just a few mouse clicks.
