3.5" is just fine for even my old eyes. The compact format makes one handed easy and fits tight pockets. If they went to 4" without a substantial change in size, that could be a bonus, however have no need for a 'penis envy' 4.5 - 5"screen trumpeted by the Android leamings.

The main problem with big screens - apart from the fact they dont fit in your pocket - is that if you drop them there's a much higher chance of cracking the screen. Plus, battery life is worse if youre watching lots of HD movies and stuff. |

I'm very happy with my SGS II 4.3" screen, I'm comfortable using it with one hand, and it is large enough for me to use it also as a web device, etc. |

I wouldnt want anything bigger than the size of the iPhone 4/4S, this is because I dont have very large hands and its I want to be able to use these form factor of devices with one hand when I need too, anything bigger and it just cant be done! |

I use a Samsung Galaxy SII and I can honestly say that anything bigger than that would hurt my hands after long uses. I want something my hands can wrap around the frame, and my phone allows it. Of course such an argument is moot if you have a different person, some people have smaller or larger hands. |

4.3 to 4.5 might be the sweet spot. 3.5 this year's 2.1" display.
Just fine for lemmings who need to feel good about having joined some flock or other and want to face pray and pay for punyvision.
I have yet to play with a Galaxy note for more than a minute. It didn't seem gigantic and would fit in a suit/handbag just fine. Once there, yhat size might make tablets highly irrelevant for frequent travellers??? |

Photo, stuck record time, yet again.
The fact that 37+Million people were happy with a 3.5" screen in the last quarter suggests that your pronouncements of the absolute need for 4.3 to 5" carry no weight in the market. Let's see you claim that 37M people are all deluded fanboys!
Having worked with tablets when traveling, I cannot see 7" and smaller units being that useful, however for some people with limited requirements, possible. |

Hmmm
The 37 million does NOT prove that a tiny screen is their preference. It merely suggests that the BRAND they wanted to support (for whatever reason) DOES NOT offer them ANY CHOICE.
I'm sure some self-delusional people will CLAIM they prefer punyvision until apple catches up. Fact: IF there were a choice at the fruit shop, MANY would opt for a more useful screen - RIGHT NOW. In the meantime they will merely disguise their screen envy as something else. Now THAT'S a fan-boy.
Yes it IS a stuck record (groan).
Dual core processors were also useless in their eyes until there was fruity version. The next fruit-phone WILL have suitable screen and truly impartial observers are ready to laugh at the fan-boy 'impartial' reviewers to then say: "The time is 'NOW RIGHT' for a useful screen size". We are all simply waiting for apple to catch up - again.

Despite all your insisting that 3.5" is no good, I have no problem with it, and the 3 staff who now have iPhones all had the opportunity to have Galaxy 2S and chose not to. Bulk was a common thread, plus an interface they felt wasn't as rounded.
Of those staff, none have Apple computers, and one is the in house Linux guru, so can't make your usual accusations about them.
As I've already said on this thread, a 4" screen with minimal change in overall size would be a bonus, though nothing about the 3.5 that hinders usefulness in any way.
Like most people without a penis envy size is everything complex, I want a phone that's powerful, compact and works as a phone. The iPhone fills that bill nicely and plays nice with our Exchange server and A/D, something that at present Android does not do near as well.
Strange how, like many Android fanatics you seem to know better than the people who are happy with a current iPhone that they somehow have some secret desire for a larger screen or are self delusional. I guess that's the only way you can feel secure with your irrational anti-Apple rants.
Only someone with utter insecurity over their choice, or a god complex would claim to know that everyone/most people who chose an iPhone have that secret desire to have a larger screen.
As for your 'useful screen' claims, the 3.5 fits everything in, displays email, does everything needed. Guess that means the screen is useful... It does exactly everything required of it.
I'm not aware of anyone who had issues over the dual core processors. Just you it seems. Like most people, I will always want more cores, more processing power, as long as it doesn't screw battery performance.
Of course there's only you to verify that Apple is in any way running behind Android and playing catch up. Somehow you seem to know better than any one else. |

No, right off. iphome users I know wish out loud for a bigger screen - those you know apparently do not.
Apple is apparently already remedying punyvision in the next model so THEY must have the penis envy - not us with better screens - so THEY 'know better'. |

Yeah Photo, sure you know iPhone users who wish out loud, (probably that you'd get off your anti-Apple hobby horse and go sit in the corner and play with your 'Android phone').
Not being an iPhone user, why don't you just accept that I and other iPhone users (including other posters) really do know our own minds when we say we don't have any problem with 3.5"
You insisting all you can that somehow we're deluded, have a secret android envy etc doesn't change that fact. |

I'm 60 and have no need to concern myself with penis envy anymore, but size can matter and I have a need to de-clutter my car dash and therefore have use for a large(ish) screen so I can eliminate my GPS unit for country travel. City maps aren't too much concern yet but as we turn in to grey nomads it will come and phone mapping will improve. In the mean time I aquired a Galaxy Note as a birthday gift a month or so ago. Although the program is still being developed it's running a Beta version of my favourite mapping program, Oziexplorer, and will get better as the rest of the program features are added. Yes the Note is a handfull, and I have yet to explore the full potential of it, but I have yet to drop it and it fits in all my pockets so far and I have no need to concern myself with how it looks to others. With 16G onboard and an SD card with another 16 it more than holds all my mp3's for when out of radio range plus a large quantity of topographic maps at a very readable scale. A Tablet would possibly do the mapping better but then I'd be back to having multiple units. |

I thought I might see some intelligent comments. Instead, Apple and Android fanbois discussing penises. I have an iPhone for 2 years. Unless its jailbroken it doesn't work properly. The screen is too small, especially for use as a Satnav. Have messed around with Galaxy S II and the size is fine. The 5.3" Samsung Galaxy Note would make a awesome Satnav. Would like to have a play with one to see if it is too big, but it is not in the stores yet. I just want a device that is reliable and provides the functionality I need. I don't care whether it is Android, iOS, Blackberry or Windows Phone |

Hmm.. had a 3gs for a little while. OK, but not really my COT - too small, too heavy - annoying in the pocket, really. The 4 is noticeably heavier and its glass jaw = more damage prone.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elKxgsrJFhw and http://gadgetbox.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/10/17/8365613-drop-test-iphone-4s-vs-galaxy-s-ii for a non scientific bit of infotainment.
Plenty of people who see a bigger better screen, can see the practicality of it and as none of my circle of friends are Oompah Loompahs, they can easily reach over a 'huge' 4+" screen.
No p... references here ... I combined a Pilot with a phone when I bought tthat Treo smartphone. Screen too small to browse the web. I liked the real keyboard, but since I learned to SWYPE (25 minutes) I rarely need to type anything - and they have had voice search, type and dictation for years. Galaxies are just fine. It's a device for a purpose, not an iReligion. If a bigger screen serves better is up to the buyer. Apple is following, so they seem to agree.

I'll simply re-state that 3.5" works just fine fr me. Enough space to easily do all I need.
As for the claim you have to jailbreak, absolute rubbish. It carries out every business function and any games etc out of the box.
Also the claim it's too heavy, if you can't carry a few extra grams, some sort of whimp. You can easily forget it's in your pocket, so can't be that heavy.
The fact that Apple is rumored to be going to a bigger screen does not make an admission of some failing as some might wish, merely recognition that size is important to enough customers. As before, if they can fit in a 4" screen without they extra pork of some, that would be a bonus but doesn't make a phone any better at it's primary functions. |

Yep, My PunyScreen (tm) Treo did almost everything - for a while, I hankered after a BIGGER SCREEN and my 3gs (and some earlier phones) offered that. The 4 looked like a stupid idea with its fragile glass jaw construction, so no reason to upgrade. (I actually went back to my Treo for a while) - synch issues.
I use sealed, metal bodied cameras as I can be hard on tools. That stuff weighs quite a bit more especially when in concert with a swag of sealed lenses.
As I postulated elsewhere, the trend (to me) looks to be for larger screens. whether it be monitors, TVs, phones, GPS, screen based playthings etc. etc.
Earlier, screen cost would have been a major part of the 3.5" size choice, and that's utterly moot now, no matter what excuses are used to suggest that a good screen means one you can see more easily. I agree with the other poster, a 5.3" would probably perform most tablet AND car GPS functions too.
It would also me a good picture reviewer for my DSLR so I can see the results on a bigger, better screen. One device instead of three (for most, FOUR for me)! Considering a Samsung TV - my Galaxy can already control them and their blu-rays it seems. That'd replace FIVE or even SIX gadgets! This is where the future seems to be.
These things are not just phones any more, others are *at least equal* to the fruity one as a phone.
I for one, LIKE to carry less junk - more room for cameras and lenses. Fact: Phone cases are BIG business and a case hides the finer points of 'design'. Has many benefits especially for fruit phones with their antenna design.

Having used both the iPad and a Kindle Touch, a 5.3"screen phone is far too small for worhwhile use as a tablet replacement, at least for any business uses, remoting, etc.
May well be fine for reading books, or browsing truncated web pages, but then as a phone to slip in a jeans pocket, it would be a total dead loss. Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just pleased to see me.... |

Maybe not for teens - probably not the market anyway.
I already carry specs, wallet, GPS, waterproof camera etc around in a bum bag already.
A Galaxy Note (or similar) would fit just fine there - especially if it replaced 2 of the above. |

Bum Bag???
Being a REAL man, I carry only what fits in my pockets!!!!:d Don't need the camera, that's in the phone.
Actually, I do carry a Man Bag, but there's room only for wallet, readers, Nitro spray and tissues. Could squeeze the iPhone in, but prefer that in pocket

Heh, heh. I'm only 'important' enough to have a phone on me at all times when someone PAYS me to carry it. I suppose it pays you to have one on you, too. I ignore it when I can :)
Teenagers of course, MUST have their phones on them at all times just in case their world stops turning :) |

I can easily type one handed. SWYPE makes it even easier.
That 'reason' for a puny-screened phone is "troll Non Sequitur". It has been endlessly debunked elsewhere.
Get the Little Galaxy if you're truly worried about that.
And I agree Val.., the iphone is HEAVIER than a phone needs to be. |
