Acer readies Iconia A510 and A511 Tegra 3 tablets

It looks like Asus' Transformer prime is getting some Tegra 3-flavoured competition...

Before you get too over-excited about Asus' almighty Transformer Prime – powered by Nvidia's jaw-dropping Tegra 3 quad-core processor – and HTC's as yet unnamed quad-core tab, you should know Acer has a couple of equally powerful Tegra 3 slabs of tech in the pipeline. That is, according to Japenese site Blog of Mobile.

Dubbed the Iconia Tab A510 and A511, Acer's next-gen tabs are thought to be available in Wi-Fi only and 3G + Wi-Fi flavours respectively, which both have the Transformer Prime and HTCs quad-core tab squarely in their sights.

Its specs are expected to be just as impressive as the Transformer Prime, but at this stage all we know is that it's going to rock a 1280 x 800 pixel screen and even that has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

With both sets of tabs seemingly going head to head in the near future, we guess it will all boil down to whether you want a hybrid device that doubles up as a netbook, or a standalone tablet device that eschews a keyboard completely.

Either way, we suspect we'll be feasting our eyes on both tablet offerings at CES in January 2012.
