Xbox.com adds new social features

There's something a little different about Xbox.com...

Gamers logging on to Xbox.com today will notice that it has undergone a bit of a revamp, with new social networking features added to the site. So, My Xbox has vanished and has been replaced with a new Social feature, giving you full stalking control over your Xbox mates and letting you keep a beady eye on their gaming activity.

Users are also given a sneak peek of what to expect when the Xbox 360 Dashboard launches, which is rumoured to be going ahead on November 15 – the Xbox's tenth anniversary. You'll be able to mark the games you want to get some multiplayer action with, by tapping into the new Beacon feature – tied directly into the dashboard – so it'll be easy for all your pals to see what and when you want to play en masse.

As expected, the layout is very Windows Phone-esque with a tile-style Metro UI. Xbox.com's Zune video service has been given a spit-and-polish, with improved search functionality for finding movies and TV shows on your Xbox 360 or Windows Phone.

One feature that will no doubt prove handy for gamers is the ability to prevent an Xbox Live account from automatically renewing – and, more importantly, automatically debiting your bank account. Getting Xbox customer services on the line has previously been the only way to combat this issue. Additional functions include Activity tabs, activity tracking and a list of your virtual friends and what they're up to.

So while Microsoft puts the finishing touches on the Xbox 360 dashboard, why not take the Xbox.com tour?
