Communications company blames "premature" launch

Skype has pulled its long-awaiting iPad app just hours after launching the service.

Apple's tablet users have been waiting to be able to use the video and voice services on the iPad, and the app initially worked using both 3G and Wi-Fi connections.

Hours after launch Skype pulled the app, claiming it had been made available prematurely, although it gave no details of what was wrong with the service as offered.

“To ensure your best Skype experience, we've temporarily removed Skype for iPad which went live prematurely,” the company said on its Twitter feed.

“We know you've been eagerly awaiting Skype for iPad and apologise for the inconvenience.”
